Gamers Read .5k (500 m) Walk/Run/Sprint aimed to bring the gaming, cosplay, anime, and running communities and their families together to advocate for literacy, especially among youth in grades K-5. This event also celebrated National Video Games Day.
Literacy is a critical skill for success in society, and esports careers such as game design & development, comic book creation, shoutcasting/streaming, and eSports journalism all require welldeveloped literacy skills. Gamers Read .5k (500m) Walk/Run/Sprint was sponsored by PCX GO!, a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to prepare K-16 youth for eSports careers through informing, instructing, and educating youth around eSports career pathways.
